Top shot of protest in London as Turkey's Erdogan visits May
  • 6 years ago
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was met with angry protests at the start of a three-day visit to London today (May 15).

Minor skirmishes broke out between pro-Erdogan counter protesters and Kurdish demonstrators outside Downing Street in a protest organised by freedom of speech groups.

According to Reporters Without Borders, Turkey has recently dropped to 57th out of 180 countries in their 2018 World Press Index and remains the world's biggest prison for professional journalists.

The video, which was shot today, around 11.00am, shows the protesters gathered outside Downing Street, moments before skirmishes occurred.

In the video, banners branding Erdogan a "terrorist", "dictator" and a "murderer" are held by the demonstrators.

In addition to meeting Prime Minister Theresa May, Erdogan is also due to meet Queen Elizabeth II.
