The BMW 8 Series is coming and ahead of the launch I had the opportunity to take a first drive in a prototype of the M850i xDrive to get a feel for what it's going to be like!

Very much defined as a sports car, the new 8er is not just a Coupe version of the popular, luxurious 7 Series as you might expect but a new machine, and one that BMW have been free to define. With a number that brings back memories of the Z8, the previous 8 Series and also the i8, it's clearly very significant and for my drive I'm joined by Tomo Yoshihara to discuss more what it's about.

As we explore the roads of Snowdonia in Wales with hugely variable weather, it gives an opportunity to experience the chassis side of the car and the work they've done to make it comfortable, yet sporty, while also being able to dial up and become a very dynamic driving experience.

The future will hold not only the full release of the M850i but also an M8 variant with in excess of 600hp. In this case the 4.4l turbocharged V8 is putting out 530hp, but combined with the xDrive all wheel drive system has no trouble putting down the power.
