Smoke Rises From Lava-Scarred Properties in Hawaii's Leilani Estates

Travis Sanders and Lava News returned to Leilani Estates on May 8 to capture footage of the damage caused by lava flows from Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano.At least 25 homes homes":http://abc7.com/dozens-of-homes-destroyed-by-hawaii-volcano/3436811/ have been destroyed in the Pahoa neighborhood after a series of lava vents began spewing molten rock following the eruption of the Kilauea volcano and a 6.9 magnitude earthquake that jolted Hawaii’s Big Island on May 4.The Washington Post reported the area was safe enough on Tuesday morning to allow evacuated residents to return temporarily and for Sanders and Lava news to record some of the damage done to the estates. According to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, residents are being encouraged to plan for the possibility of the eruptive behavior to continue for weeks or even months.
