Wall of cooling black lava blocks street in Hawaii
  • 6 years ago
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported that volcanic activity has paused at all 12 fissures in the Leilani subdivision on Hawaii’s Big Island “although they continue to emit hazardous fumes, according to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.”

In the video, a filmer captures cooling black lava blocking a road in Leilani Estates at 5:48 am on May 8, 2018.

Although the lava looks cool since it's black and not red, the filmer points out otherwise.

“This is still hot,” the filmer explains. “I hear some singeing of trees still.”

The filmer then takes his camera and points out how the lava is still red underneath the cooling black lava.
