Securities and Exchange Commission Orders Jay-Z to Appear in Court On Thursday, the SEC announced it is investigating Iconix Brand Group Inc., which acquired Jay-Z’s retail company, Rocawear, for $200 million in 2007. The commission believes Iconix has violated federal securities laws regarding its financial reporting on the clothing brand. The SEC said it sent Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, two subpoenas, one in November and the other in February, for which he failed to appear. Securities and Exchange Commission According to New York Daily News, Carter’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, claimed he does not know why the commission wants to speak to his client.
