Photography is already a difficult field to break into—all the equipment is super expensive and in some parts the African continent, VERY hard to come by. On top of that, it’s a white male-dominated industry.

Meet Malin Fezehai​, an Eritrean-Swede documentary photographer and visual reporter at the The New York Times​. She helps Africans on the continent reclaim their narratives by sharing her craft through workshops and seminars. Her advice for aspiring African photographers? Tell yourself this mantra whenever you feel discouraged, “I have a right to be in the room and I have a right to be here. “
