Laid-back monitor lizard halts traffic to cross road

A large monitor lizard brought traffic to a stop when it idly ambled across the road.

The 5ft long reptile wandered in front of cars on Tuesday afternoon (May 1) in Pathumthani, central Thailand.

He was filmed making a hasty U-turn and scampering back into a side street as an oncoming driver slowed down for the lizard.

The witness said: ''I saw the lizard from the distance and slowed down so he could cross.

''I'm not sure why he turned around and went back. Maybe he forgot something at home. I hope he wasn't scared by me.''
