A dramatic police pursuit through Brisbane and Sunshine Coast on April 28 ended in the arrest of a 33-year-old man who drove on the wrong side of a motorway, stole a car and stopped in Heathwood after his vehicle was too damaged to continue. On Saturday afternoon around 5:30 pm, a police helicopter spotted a Holden Commodore driving on the wrong side of the Gateway Motorway in Glass House Mountains, with sparks flying from its tyres. Queensland Police said after they stopped the car, it sped off and drove south in northbound lanes on the Bruce Highway. An hour later, the driver stopped in Hillcrest and reportedly stole a Mazda ute and continued to flee from police, who deployed stingers along Algester Road to deflate its tyres. After continuing down Blunder Road, with a shower of sparks streaming behind it, the car eventually came to a stop and was quickly surrounded by police, who pulled the 33-year-old Bundaberg man from the vehicle and arrested him.The driver was charged with several counts of dangerous driving, unlicensed driving, stolen vehicle offences, and serious assault on police officers. He is due to appear in court on Monday. Credit: Queensland Police via Storyful
