A madcap mechanic shows off his electricity-saving invention - an exercise bike hooked up to the washing machine.

Dandy Vincentino, 43, removed the engine from the washer and linked a belt to the cogs on an old bicycle.

Relaxing on a plastic chair, he is seen pedalling, which turns the washing machine drum that contains water and soap.

Vincentino, from Davao City, Philippines, says his contraption is perfect for people who are too busy to visit the gym.

He added: ''This saves a lot of electricity. It's a great way to lose weight, too. I built it with an old exercise bike and a washing machine.''
