Protests restarted in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, on April 25, after the resignation under pressure of Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan.Protesters blocked areas near the central offices of the Republican Party, which Sargsyan leads, and thousands were reported to have gathered in Republic Square, chanting anti-Republican Party slogans.The protests come after the late-night announcement on April 24 that a meeting between the acting prime minister, Karen Karapetyan, and the leader of the opposition had been cancelled, Armenpress reported.Reuters said on April 25 that Karapetyan had suggested new parliamentary elections.
