Tamil Nadu govt peddles sexist and victim-blaming views in its school textbooks

As the discourse on sexual abuse of children in the country following outrage over the Kathua rape case. It has come to light that Tamil Nadu govt has been peddling sexist and victim-blaming views in its school textbooks. A chapter called 'reaching the age of adolescence' in the class 8 science textbook suggests how to prevent abuse. It tells students not to not wear provocative dresses, to take care of the way they should sit and when going to school by auto, bus or by train they must keep distance from the other sex. According to reports, the director of the state council for educational research and training has claimed that the textbook was in circulation for past 12 yrs and has not found any fault till date. As clamour grows, the Tamil Nadu Education Minister has promised an overhaul in education system.
