Ady Barkan Has a Heart-Wrenching Final Letter for His Son
  • 6 years ago
Ady Barkan left a heartbreaking video message for his baby son.

“Hey Carl, it’s me, dad,” he began in the video. “By the time you’re watching this, you will have grown up to be strong and courageous just like you are now as a little boy. But I don’t know how much longer I’ll be around for you.”

Barkan explains in the video how he was diagnosed with ALS, a debilitating disease that weakens the muscles. Since then, his muscles and ability to speak have weakened.

He also explains how the president passed the tax system overhaul in the midst of his deteriorating abilities, which put his healthcare at risk. Barkan has since traveled to Washington to protest the bill and serve as an ALS advocate.

“I wanted to do what I could to create a better country for you to live in,” he explained to his son. “I want to be a role model for you, even if I’m gone. I’m losing my ability to speak so I’m asking people to be my voice. I’m losing my ability to walk, so I’m asking people to march for me.”

He concludes the tender video, hoping that people in Congress advocating for the current tax overhaul will be voted out of office and telling his son that he wants to make him proud.
