Creating a sliding barn door. Hi this is Craig\r
from Capn America Projects. Today, we are\r
going to show you how to make an awesome sliding\r
barn door using old closet doors and pallet\r
boards. First Im going to show you how we\r
mounted the top board that we are going to\r
put the track on. \r
Make sure that your boards are level. We figured\r
out a good way to do it. There wasnt a stud\r
in place where it should have been so we screwed\r
it to the corner. Anytime you have a corner\r
you should have some studs there. So we got\r
those in the corner and we screwed them in\r
at a 45 degree angle. Then weve got some\r
pretty good outdoor strong screws. They are\r
3 and 1/2 inches long to make sure they get\r
through the dry wall and in to the studs.\r
We are going to first do a punch to\r
put where we are going to make our holes and\r
then we are going to use the drill press.\r
First you mark it then you do the punch. Starting\r
with the 5/16 bit for the pilot hole then\r
we will switch over to the 3/8. So we have\r
this nice drill press to make our holes. Got\r
it clamped down, thats a little grease or\r
something. Just a little oil. Here we go.\r
Swapping the bit to larger bit. Finish off\r
those holes. We started putting our metal\r
bar up. What we did is we drilled our first\r
hole then we put in one screw in loosely just\r
to hold it, before we pout the spacer in.\r
This step I forgot to tape. Before we put\r
the spacer in we put one screw loosely in\r
the hole and you dont want to put the spacer\r
in at first because you want this flush with\r
the board so you can mark your other holes.\r
So we put that one in then we used a pen in\r
each hole to mark on our wood where we are\r
going to put em. So the metal was flush on\r
the board while we did that. We marked all\r
our holes and then you can see there is the\r
last hole but we may not need that. It may\r
be for the spacer. \r
the track. Here we go. Feels pretty strong.\r
A set of\r
closets with animals all over it. I bought\r
it from Sandy who always has the coolest used\r
stuff. Tell me about this door Sandy. Well,\r
ually it is a Noahs Ark. It came from\r
Woodburn auction house. It was a score and\r
a great find and I love it and Im glad you\r
love it too. Awesome! \r
To keep it from splitting\r
your wood, you need a counter sink bit. I\r
didnt have one but I had a glass cutter that\r
is similar. So what that does is it just widens\r
the mouth of the hole so then when your screw\r
head goes in it doesnt split the wood. \r
As you can see as I put the wheel on, this\r
way I can get a screw in to each of the boards.\r
That is going to be stronger than if they\r
were both in the same board. The next thing\r
we did is we put a two by four on the floor.\r
You want to get just a little bit of lift\r
off the floor because you dont want your\r
door dragging on the floor. You need it to\r
hover a couple of inches off. So we used a\r
little 2 x 4 there. We set the door on that\r
in place and then what I did is I went ahead\r
and put the wheel on the track then I took\r
a pencil with the wheel on the track the door\r
was right here. It came up, the door came\r
just about an inch below the track or so.\r
I took my pencil and I marked on the door\r
where the two holes will be. Here it is, the last piece! Lets flip\r
that around. There we go. Ok lets have a look.\r
Here you have it! Beautiful! So anyway there\r
you have the full door now Im going to go\r
ahead and glue these on. Right now these are\r
just loosely sitting here. You want to do\r
that first. You dont want to glue anything\r
down until you are ready. Since the door is only attached\r
at the top it can swing. It can kind of rock.\r
So the guide is to ensure that this stays\r
in place. Im going to make a space down here\r
basically by putting a board on either side\r
so there is like a track so that the guide\r
will be in between them and that will keep\r
the door from rocking. Ok now that is finished\r
so you can see here that we have got a nice\r
groove down here. Thanks so much fro watching!\r

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock.\r
If anyone hears my voice and opens the door,\r
I will come in and eat with that person, and\r
they with me.\r
