House Speaker Paul Ryan Will Retire
House Speaker Paul Ryan will not seek re-election, but will retire from public office with the end of his current term.
The 48-year-old was first elected to Congress in 1999 representing Wisconsin's first congressional district.
Since 2015 Ryan has served as the House Speaker, taking over late that year after John Boehner chose to retire from office.
Prior to serving as the Speaker of the House, Ryan chaired the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Budget Committee.
