French students engage in nationwide protests against selective enrollment

Paris, Apr 10 (EFE/EPA), (Camera: Ian Langsdon).- University students across France took to the streets in nationwide protests against education reforms to make entrance to higher education more selective.
The student demonstrations coincided with wider industrial action and strikes undertaken by French railway and airline unions that have reduced transport services to a minimum over President Emmanuel Macron's liberalizing labor reforms.
An epa correspondent at the scene documented throngs of students engaged in a demonstration near the prestigious Sorbonne University with placard emblazoned with: "Not Happy."
Critics of Macron's education reforms, which seek to replace a lottery-style system currently in place to allow universities to be more selective, say the changes would fuel inequality.
