Deerfield, Illinois Bans Assault Weapons The ban includes the AR-15, which was used in the Parkland, Florida school shooting. Deerfield’s Village Board of Trustees unanimously approved the ordinance on Monday night, citing the tragedies in Florida and Sutherland Springs, Texas. “We hope that our local decision helps spur state and national leaders to take steps to make our communities safer.” – Harriet Rosenthal, Mayor of Deerfield
Exceptions to the ordinance include carrying weapons that are “broken down and in a non-functioning state,” and being current or retired law enforcement official.
Gun owners have until June 13 to secure or forfeit their weapons or risk paying a daily fine of up to $1,000.
