Even as the government file a review petition before the Supreme Court (SC) later today challenging its order banning automatic arrest and registration of cases for alleged harassment of SCs and STs, Dalits across the nation have called for a Bharat Bandh. Dalit organisations are creating a momentum against the SC verdict, demanding that the government file review petition against the order. Meanwhile, Ram Vilas Paswan has said there was no need to carry out protests since the government has already decided to file a review petition in the top court on Monday. In the past week, Minister of Empowerment met up a delegation of SC/ST leaders from the NDA in a bid to allay their concerns about the SC verdict, which is being seen as a 'dilution' of the act. Prime Minister Narendra Modi to has intervened in the matter. Congress and Left front too are supporting the Dalit organisations in their nationwide protest.
