White House On Iran Deal: Trump 'Prepared To Potentially Withdraw' From Agreement

The White House on Monday said President Trump may withdraw from the Iran deal.

The White House on Monday indicated that President Trump is ready "to potentially withdraw" from the Iran nuclear deal.
"[Trump] thinks it's one of the worst agreements the United States has ever made internationally," White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah said at a press briefing. "He is insistent on changes both at the congressional level working with Congress and also with our European partners. If changes aren't made, the president is prepared to potentially withdraw from the agreement."  According to the BBC, "the 2015 nuclear deal...was the signature foreign policy achievement of Barack Obama's presidency. The initial framework lifted crippling economic sanctions on Iran in return for limitations to the country's controversial nuclear energy programme."
President Trump has repeatedly indicated his deep dissatisfaction with the arrangement. In October, Trump threatened to walk away from the agreement "if it was not amended to permanently block Tehran from building nuclear weapons or intercontinental missiles," notes the New York Times.
