Producers for 'The Crown' Apologize to Claire Foy and Matt Smith Over Gender Pay Left Bank Pictures, who produces the show for Netflix, has issued a statement about the "media storm" they caused after revealing last week that Foy, who played Queen Elizabeth, made significantly less than co-star Matt Smith. We want to apologize to both Claire Foy and to Matt Smith, brilliant actors and friends, who have found themselves at the center of a media storm this week through no fault of their own. As the producers of 'The Crown,' we at Left Bank Pictures are responsible for budgets and salaries; the actors are not aware of who gets what, and cannot be held personally responsible for the pay of their colleagues. The company goes on to say that they are committed to fair pay going forward, free of gender bias. Both Foy and Smith will no longer appear in the show as it moves towards a more modern setting.
