A federal judge in Alexandria, Virginia, indicated that former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort could spend "the rest of his life in prison," reports Fox News.
"Given the nature of the charges against the defendant and the apparent weight of the evidence against him, defendant faces the very real possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison," U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III, who is overseeing Manafort's case, wrote in an order made public on Tuesday. The order also indicates that Manafort has been placed on a "24-hour-a-day lockdown" at his local condo, with the only exceptions being medical matters and meetings with his lawyer. According to The Hill, "In October 2017, a grand jury in Washington, D.C., empaneled by special counsel Robert Mueller charged Manafort with money laundering and for failing to report his prior work with Ukraine."
"In February, a grand jury in Virginia filed a second indictment against Manafort with bank fraud and tax evasion charges," reports the media outlet. Politico notes that Ellis has given Manafort the opportunity to loosen the recently-established lockdown restrictions by pledging enough property to ensure he will appear in court.
