Trump Says Chinese President 'Appreciates' His Diplomatic Efforts On North Korea Rather Than The 'Ominous Alternative'
President Trump on Saturday tweeted that he spoke "at length" with Chinese President Xi Jinping about Kim Jong Un.

Days after the announcement that President Trump has accepted an invitation by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un for a meeting over the regime's weapons program, Trump took to social media and posted a series of tweets.
"Chinese President XI JINPING and I spoke at length about the meeting with KIM JONG UN of North Korea. President XI told me he appreciates that the U.S. is working to solve the problem diplomatically rather than going with the ominous alternative. China continues to be helpful!" Trump tweeted Saturday.
Hours later, the president posted another tweet: "North Korea has not conducted a Missile Test since November 28, 2017 and has promised not to do so through our meetings. I believe they will honor that commitment!"
Reactions to the meeting announcement have been mixed with many expressing skepticism about North Korea's intentions.
When asked if Kim Jong-un "can be trusted as a negotiating partner," White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters on Friday, "we're not in the negotiation right now.  We've accepted the invitation to talk, based on them following through with concrete actions on the promises that they've made."
