A campus housing issue at Howard University that left many students worried about their future accommodations attracted online attention after a student posted a response she received after contacting the school president outlining her situation. The student posted images on Twitter on March 7 that appeared to show a response email from the college president, Wayne A.I. Frederick, calling her tone and tenor inappropriate. On the same date, a group of students said they were denied entry to the student affairs office and were also denied information regarding their housing status.Videos posted online show campus police interacting with the students who appear to be contained in a hall.On March 8, the university president said he and his staff had failed to offer students a supportive and enjoyable university experience. The housing issue arose as a result of a technical glitch and not a housing shortage, he said.In this video, students are seen in a crowded hall at the university. One campus police officer asks the students, “How do you know that we have a home?” He then says campus officials are working on fixing the technical glitch to rectify the housing allocation. The uploader told Storyful she has not received any information on her housing status and she is on a waitlist for next semester.
