According to a report by Business Insider, an underground farm sitting inside a WWII bomb shelter produces about two tons of food a month. Growing Underground was founded in 2012 by Richard Ballard and Steven Dring and is based in one of eight shelters each built to house around 8,000 people across London during the war. The farm uses a combination of hydroponic systems and LED lighting to simulate a day and night cycle.
