Not only do they look frightening but these clams can harbour such diseases as hepatitis A, typhoid and dysentery and have been linked to hepatitis outbreaks in China. They are ually illegal in China because of the inherent danger in eating them but they must taste great because people still eat them regardless. \r

This national dish of Iceland consists of a Greenland shark that has been cured with a specific fermentation process and hung to dry for four to five months. The dish is charerized by its strong ammonia-rich smell and very fishy taste. Celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain, who has been documented eating all kinds of weird food describes the dish as “the single worst, most disgusting and terrible tasting thing” he has ever eaten. This is all despite the f that it comes from the liver of the monkfish, one of the scarier looking fish around. Its typically served in ponzu sauce after being rubbed with salt and rinsed in rice wine. \r

There are parts of Africa in which this bullfrog is considered a delicacy. If they stuck to only eating the legs like the French than Namibians would have no problems as it relates to this dish. But Namibians and other Africans eat the whole frog, which is where problems can be encountered. The frogs secrete a poison in their skin which can cause kidney failure and death in humans when consumed. \r

These creepy looking noodles were presented at Japans Unbelievable Science Festival by bad food scientist Kurare Raku. Raku would not reveal how he got them to glow in the dark or if the noodles will turn your mouth a different color, but he did reveal that they taste like a regular bowl of noodles. \r

Ackee is the national food of Jamaica and is a major part of their diet. Its very nutritionally beneficial but also contains a toxin that can cause coma and death if eaten unripe. When it ripens the only edible part is the yellow arilli that surrounds the toxic black seeds on the inside of the fruit.\r

The Downtown Hotel in Dawson City, Canada has been serving the Sourtoe Cocktail since 1973. While it may be hard to believe one of the main ingredients is a severed human toe. The toes are drained of all bodily fluids and pickled before being served. As of new a total of 12 toes have been used for the drink. $10 and drinking the cocktail while letting the toe touch your lips will get you into the Sourtoe Cocktail Club, which has over 60,000 members. Consuming the toes is highly discouraged and comes with a $2,500 fine as procuring human toes is apparently difficult.\r

You have to have courage to eat this fish as it contains enough poison to be fatal. Toxins must be carefully removed from the puffer fish before it can be safely eaten. Chefs are required to be specially trained, licensed and certified by the government in order to cook this fish which is said to have a mild and clean taste.
