After years of bullying, this woman is transforming her skin condition into art. At age 12, artist Ashley Soto was diagnosed with Vitiligo, a condition that causes the loss of skin pigment in blotches. Over time, the now 21-year-old came to love her body, and she expresses herself by turning her skin into a canvas. “I remember sitting one day, and I just started tracing the spots on my arm,” says Soto, “and as I kept going, I started noticing whoa, this looks like little continents and little maps.” Soto traces her skin with oil-based paint markers, then posts pictures of her art on Instagram. She has over 100K followers, and says that she wouldn’t change her skin condition for the world because it’s who she is.
