Toilet roll price hike sparks panic among Taiwan shoppers
  • 6 years ago
Consumers scramble to buy toilet paper in a Taiwan supermarket ahead of a planned price hike.

In the video, filmed at a Costco supermarket in Taichung City on February 25, consumers attempt to get their hands on as many rolls as they can. The video also shows empty shelves.

According to China's Ministry of Economic Affairs, the cost of materials used to make toilet paper has risen. The ministry cited factors such as disruption to production in Brazil and forest fires in Canada.

Although the Government assured citizens that supplies are stable and the price would not rise until mid-March, shoppers still stocked up.
