U.S. reveals North Korea pulled out of scheduled meeting with Pence at last minute
  • 6 years ago
Let's start with news that U.S. Vice President Mike Pence was set to meet with North Korean officials in South Korea during his recent visit for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, before North Korea pulled out at the eleventh hour.
The Vice President's office told the Washington Post on Tuesday, that upon North Korea's instigation, they had been preparing for possible talks before Pence left for Asia.
The two sides had agreed to meet at the Blue House in Seoul, on February 10th, the day after the opening ceremony, but North Korea cancelled two hours before the set time.
Pyongyang is said to have expressed dissatisfaction with Pence's announcement of new sanctions on the regime a few days prior, as well as his meeting with North Korean defectors and Fred Warmbier, the father of the American student who died last year shortly after being released from 17 months of detention in the North.
