Trump backs efforts to bolster FBI gun checks: White House

The White House says President Trump supports efforts to improve federal background checks for gun purchases.
Monday's comments by spokeswoman Sarah Sanders came days after a shooting at a school in Florida killed 17 people.
She said the president and Republican Senator John Cornyn spoke on Friday about a bipartisan bill designed to strengthen the FBI database of prohibited gun buyers.
Students who survived last week's shooting have said they will march on Washington next month to demand action on gun control.
Trump had been under fire for not directly addressing the national gun debate, but rather accusing the FBI of being fixated on the Russia investigation instead of trying to deter the high school attack.
