Greeks rush to shop seafood for Clean Monday

Greek people rush through the night at Athens central Varvakeios Market to buy fresh seafood for the Clean Monday lent. Every year especially for this feast, Varvakeios Seafood Market opens on Sunday before midnight and remains open throughout the night, until Clean Monday at noon. Clean Monday holiday or Ash Monday, marks the start of the Great Lent ahead of the Greek Orthodox Easter on April 8.
