A two-day Global Investor Summit was organised at Guwahati, Assam. In the inaugural address, PM Narendra Modi said that the northeast is at the heart of the government's Act East policy. He also spoke about the restructuring of National Bamboo Mission which will remove bamboo from category of trees and will benefit farmers and tribals of the state. In the budget speech made on February 1, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had announced allocation of Rs 1290 crores for promotion of bamboo sector.
