At least four sinkholes have come dangerously close to sinking homes in The Villages neighborhood in Marion, Florida. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office warned on February 15 that sinkholes had opened and threatened two homes. The sheriff’s office Facebook post said the largest sinkhole was 35-feet deep by 18-feet across. Public Information Officer Paul Bloom said in the update there were only three sinkholes, but Orlando’s News 6 reported later a fourth had opened in the same area. Utilities to the homes were disconnected and some of the homes had been condemned.Water drainage from a nearby man-made lake made the sinkholes widen, Bloom said in the video. Officials were trying to drain the lake. Credit: Marion County Sheriff’s Office via Storyful
