"This will be a big week for Infrastructure. After so stupidly spending $7 trillion in the Middle East, it is now time to start investing in OUR Country!" Trump wrote on Twitter.
His tweet comes amid reports that the Trump administration is set to reveal the details of its $1.5 trillion infrastructure plan this week.
During his State of the Union address in late January, Trump said, "I am calling on the Congress to produce a bill that generates at least $1.5 trillion for the new infrastructure investment we need."
"Every federal dollar should be leveraged by partnering with state and local governments and, where appropriate, tapping into private sector investment — to permanently fix the infrastructure deficit," Trump added.
The president has long cited trillions of dollars spent in the Middle East in the context of his infrastructure push.
However, the Washington Post notes that figure "adds in estimates of future spending, such as interest on the debt and veterans care for the next three decades."
