Mirai Nagasu Makes Figure Skating History Nagasu is the first American woman to land a triple axel in the Olympics. The 24-year-old's feat secured Team USA a bronze medal in the team event. Only two other women successfully landed the jump in the Olympics, including Japanese skaters Midori Ito and Mao Asada. Nagasu got cut from the Sochi games in 2014 even though she finished third in the U.S. Nationals.
