Federal Investigation Into Equifax Hack Fails To Gather Steam

According to a report by Reuters, a major investigation into the Equifax hack that exposed millions of consumers credit data is losing steam. Sources claim that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a federal agency that oversees consumer protection in the financial area, has allowed the investigation to wither. According to the report by Reuters, Mick Mulvaney, who replaced Richard Cordray as the head of the agency, may not be pursuing the investigation with vigor. Specifically, Mulvaney has failed to order subpoenas or seek testimony from company executives. Sources also claim the CFPB decided not to pursue a plan to test Equifax’s data protection. Finally, the agency has reportedly been uncooperative with Federal Reserve regulators.
