The major stock indexes on Wall Street opened lower than they closed today.
After a record-breaking 2017, things were looking up for 2018.
But the Dow and S&P are stumbling into February.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 4-percent by mid-day trading, aftering opening down 5-percent.
But the S&P 500 took the hardest hits.
Although the S&P was down only 2-percent, its energy and financial sectors were the culprits.
