Olympic Villages officially open for PyeongChang Winter Olympics athletes

Exactly one week from today,... the PyeongChang Winter Olympics will swing open with a no-expense spared opening ceremony.
All the athletes will be there for that,... but the number of athletes arriving in PyeongChang is already starting to swell.
Of the three-thousand athletes with a room in the athletes' village -- around 500 have already started to settle in.
Lee Ji-won reports.
With a grand ceremony, the PyeongChang and Gangneung Olympic Villages officially opened on Wednesday.
Over 2-thousand-900 athletes participating in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics will be staying in the villages for February.

"We are doing our best to support the Olympic athletes as they prepare... so they can perform to the best of their abilities at the Games.

The snow sports athletes will be based at the PyeongChang Olympic village, and the ice event athletes will stay in the Gangneung village.

From hair salons and a fitness center to praying rooms for various religions,... the Olympic villages aim to provide all the necessities for the athletes during their stay.
Up to 8 people will stay in each house,... sharing the rooms and facilities with athletes from the same country.

While athletes from a few countries had already moved into the villages, 500 athletes arrived on Wednesday,... including South Korea's snow-event athletes. Team Korea's ice-event athletes will move into the Gangneung village between this Sunday and Tuesday next week.

The 12 competition venues have also officially opened, allowing athletes already in the town to get started with their training and final preparations for the Games.
