Trump Says Orrin Hatch Told Him He Was A Better President Than Lincoln And Washington
  • 6 years ago
President Trump on Thursday said Orrin Hatch once told him he was the "greatest president in the history" of America.

Lists of great U.S. presidents generally include George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, but, as President Trump tells it, Republican Senator Orrin Hatch sees him as being better than any of them.  While speaking at the Congressional Republicans' retreat in West Virginia on Thursday, Trump recalled the time Hatch told him he is "the single greatest president in his lifetime."  "And he actually once said I'm the greatest president in the history of our country, and I said, 'Does that include Lincoln and Washington?' He said, 'yes.' I said, 'I love this guy,'" Trump further noted. However, according to a tweet by Ben Jacobs, a political reporter for The Guardian, "Per Hatch [spokesperson], he has said that Trump 'can be' the greatest president ever but has never said 'is.'"
