South Africa's Water Crisis Hits Cape Town Cape Town residents can only use 50 liters of municipal water per day. The new water restrictions follow warnings that the city could run out of water. Only a month ago, the daily allowance of water was set to 87 liters. South African authorities said only 55 percent of Cape Town residents are following the restriction. "It is quite unbelievable that a majority of people do not seem to care and are sending all of us headlong towards Day Zero. We can no longer ask people to stop wasting water. We must force them."
