2008 Barbados Rally Carnival Acceleration TV Highlights

Rally Barbados is the longest running International rally in the Caribbean, and the region's biggest annual motorsport event.

Although the tropical island of Barbados is the setting for this two-day tarmac rally, don't let our laid-back lifestyle fool you - the machinery is world class, the competition is as fierce as the sun is hot and the social aspects of the sport are amongst the most entertaining in the world.

Over the past 19 years we have been entertained by the first (1979) World Rally Champion Bjorn Waldegard, 1994 World Champion Didier Auriol, and National Champions from around the region and further afield, including England's Paul Bird and Steve Perez, Northern Ireland's Kenny McKinstry, and Jamaica's Gary Gregg.

The organisers and sponsors wish to thank the volunteer marshals and law enforcement personnel for their unfaltering commitment in the hot Caribbean sun, the competitors who sweated in their protective suits and helmets through two days of intense competition, and the tens of thousands of spectators who turned out to enjoy Sol Rally Barbados 2008.

Finally, the Government and people of Barbados are due a big Thank You for their co-operation in putting on what is a rare event, a tarmac rally on closed public roads.

See you all again for Rally Barbados 2009!
