He opened his first boutique in 1978. In less than 10 years, he built an empire worth $807 million. Versace met his partner Antonio D’Amico in 1982. They remained together until Versace was killed in 1997. Gianni Versace was murdered on the front steps of his Miami mansion. He was the final victim of serial killer Andrew Cunanan. Eight days after killing Versace, Cunanan killed himself with the same gun. Versace left 50 percent of his estate to his niece, Allegra, the daughter of Donatella Versace.
