SANYALnet Labs | Mac OS 9 with AppleTalk & DECnet Networking - SheepShaver Classic Power Macintosh | PowerPC G4 CPU

A demonstration of a virtual classic Apple Power Macintosh 9500 series computer (PowerPC G4 CPU @ 100 Mhz) supporting Apple's AppleTalk as well as Digital Equipment Corporation's (DEC) DECnet network protocols and communicating with Ubuntu servers over AppleTalk and OpenVMS servers over DECnet. This is one example of my non-TCP/IP networking projects.

A complete HOWTO about how I built this Mac VM is
at http://bit.ly/MacOS9-SheepShaver

I used a Virtual Distributed Ethernet (VDE) switch to connect the Power Macintosh, Ubuntu, VAX, Alphaserver, DEC PDP-11/24, Windows NT, Windows XP, Ultrix and Tru64 servers. This Power Macintosh runs on SheepShaver emulator on Ubuntu. AppleTalk support is native on Mac OS 9 and via Netatalk version 2 on Ubuntu. DECnet support on Mac OS 9 is by DEC Pathworks for Macintosh 4.0.

The demonstration shows:
(A) files on Ubuntu accessed and transferred over to Mac OS 9 over Appletalk Phase 2 network protocol, and
(B) files from OpenVMS nodes on HECnet (global hobbyist DECnet network) accessed and transferred to Mac OS 9 over DECnet Phase IV network protocol

I try to maintain a current list of my hobbyist systems, services and projects at my SDF/Freeshell website http://tuklusan.decsystem.org/
