Peruvian Air Force Surveys Extent of Earthquake Damage

At least one person has died, approximately 60 are injured and 17 were missing after a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Caraveli Province in Peru on Sunday, January 14.Video from the Peruvian Air Force shows the town of Acari, one of the areas affected by the earthquake, and Peru’s President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski tweeted he was traveling to the Arequipa towns Acarí and Chala to examine the extent of the damage and coordinate humanitarian aid.The governor of Arequipa, Yamila Osorio, tweeted that a man had died in the town of Yauca after being hit by a rock.Chilean media reports said a second person died in the town of Bella Union after a building collapsed, though the government is only reporting one dead at the time of writing.Power outages were reported in several areas.
