Severe Cold Continues to Assault Large Portions of the United States Temperatures will continue to be well below normal for much of the United States through the end of the week. According to CNN meteorologist Ivan Cabrera, 90 percent fo the U.S. didn't reach 32 degrees on New Year's Day. Schools across the country have closed due to the cold, with temperatures in some places reaching -20 degrees with wind chill. The worst is still yet to come, with snow and lower temperatures expected for the Northeast later this week.
