World Food Programme Says Progress Against Global Hunger 'Reversed' in 2017

The World Food Programme (WFP) said on December 28, that 2017 saw progress in defeating global hunger reversing, as record numbers of people fled their homes to escape fighting.WFP said out of the 815 million hungry people on the planet, 489 million live in countries affected by conflict. Four countries were on the verge of famine, and famine was declared in two South Sudan counties in February.The programme said it had received a record US$6.8 billion in funding in 2017, saying their needs far outpaced their resources and in many countries, including Yemen, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda, WFP had to reduce ration sizes or cut rations altogether.
