Man Drives Off Oregon Pier to Avoid Police

Oregon resident JD Moreland captured video of the moment a car drove off a pier in Astoria, Oregon, while trying to escape police on December 27.Moreland told Storyful residents alerted police to a man, later identified as Timofey Erofeeff, 27, that was trespassing on boats docked at North Tongue Point.Police approached Erofeeff’s Ford F150 about the alleged trespassing and discovered he had several parole violations for various offenses. Authorities were ready to take him into custody when he fled and drove down the pier and into the Columbia River, according to reports.Erofeeff managed to escape his truck and swam back to the pier, but the water was too low and authorities were unable to reach him. Employees from WTC Marine dispatched a small boat to get him out, according to police. The rescue can also be seen in the video. The residents that called law enforcement due to Erofeeff’s trespassing assisted in his rescue, according to Moreland.Erofeeff was taken to the hospital and treated for hypothermia, then released and booked at the Clatsop County Jail on several charges.
