Firefighters Gain Edge On Wildfires As Winds Weaker Than Expected

On Thursday, firefighters gained a small edge in their weeks-long battle against a massive wildfire in Southern California, thanks to weaker-than-expected winds that had been fueling the spread of the fire. The spread of the so-called Thomas Fire, now the second-largest in the state's history, has been halted after firefighters managed to carve containment lines around sixty percent of its perimeter over the last couple of days.
