McKayla Maroney's Lawyer Claims USA Gymnastics Paid her to Keep Abuse Quiet Maroney went public in October with sexual assault claims against former team doctor Larry Nassar. On Wednesday, her lawyer, John Manly, filed a suit on her behalf against USA Gymnastics claiming that they paid her $1.25 million so she didn't go public with her abuse. “I want people to understand that this kid had no choice. She couldn’t function. She couldn’t work." “They [USAG] were willing to sacrifice the health and well-being of one of the most famous gymnasts in the world because they didn’t want the world to know they were protecting a pedophile doctor.” Over 140 women have claimed Nassar abused them during medical exams. Nassar recently pleaded guilty to 10 counts of criminal sexual misconduct and is due for sentencing in January.
