Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the previous Congress-led UPA regime, saying that banks were pressured to give loans worth thousands of crores of rupees to select industrialists in a scam bigger than 2G, coal and Commonwealth Games scandals.Speaking at the 90th AGM of industry association Ficci, Modi said the non performing asset (NPA) or bad loans problem is a “liability” handed over by “economists” in the previous regime. Hard-selling his government’s pro-poor policies, he listed out initiatives like free cooking gas connections to women, bank accounts to every household, loans to the youth and affordable housing, taken since 2014.

प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने बैंकों की दुर्दशा के लिए पिछली यूपीए सरकार पर जमकर हमले किए और कहा कि पिछली सरकार के दौरान बैंकों पर दबाव डालकर चुनिंदा उद्योगपतियों को कर्ज दिलाया गया, जिससे बैंकों की करोड़ों रुपये की राशि कर्ज में फंस गई. उन्होंने इसे यूपीए सरकार के समय का सबसे बड़ा घोटाला बताया. देश के शीर्ष उद्योग मंडल फिक्की की 90वीं वार्षिक आम बैठक में पीएम मोदी ने कहा कि पिछली सरकार एनपीए के रूप में मौजूदा सरकार के लिए सबसे बड़ी 'देनदारी' छोड़कर गई है. उन्होंने इस स्थिति के लिए फिक्की जैसे उद्योगपतियों के संगठनों के कामकाज को लेकर भी सवाल उठाया. प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा, 'बैंकों पर दबाव डालकर उद्योगपतियों को पैसा दिलाया गया. इससे बैंकों की स्थिति खराब हुई. इस पर तब फिक्की ने कोई अध्ययन किया था क्या? तब उद्योग संगठन क्या कुछ आवाज उठा रहे थे? सभी को पता था कि कुछ न कुछ गलत हो रहा है, लेकिन क्या किसी ने आवाज उठाई?'
