Flint Blade & Honeydew create psychedelic soundscapes infused with uplifting messages of empowerment. Based in South Florida, the clarinet and Chapman Stick duet tour nationally and manage their independent label, In Love Records.
Multi-instrumentalist and vocalist with a penchant for improvisation, Flint Blade is most recognized for playing the Chapman Stick, a guitar/bass hybrid played by two-handed tapping. In duet with clarinetist Alison "Honeydew" Murphy, the two exhibit delightful sonic chemistry. Their unusual pairing of instruments unite classic and modern elements with stylistic flair.
In 2013 they debuted their self-produced CD "Love Light" and embarked on the countrywide "Summer Love Tour." Their 2014 sophomore EP release, of "Together" sees them exploring their musical realm ever more boldly, defining themselves in sharper resolution with a conciseness that plays to the ephemeral, infinite nature of existence itself.
Flint's 2011 solo album "Free Release" was the first to prominently feature his voice and lyrics while the Chapman Stick, tribal hand drums, electronics and studio wizardry created the sonic landscape.
Flint’s earlier work focused mostly on instrumental compositions. His 2006 album "Introscope" featured the Chapman Stick and the T-14 custom tapping guitar. Designed by guitarist Michael Bianco and built by luthier Bob Mason, the T-14 comprises two fretboards on one neck, each with standard 7-string guitar tuning. Built for a two-handed tapping method similar to that utilized on Stick, the T-14 was Flint’s main instrument before transitioning to the Chapman.
During this early period, Flint played solo renditions of jazz standards such as Dave Brubeck’s “Take Five”. Flint’s performance of the tune was his first to achieve notable popularity. This and other jazz explorations were featured on Flint’s first studio album, "Custom Standards," which was recorded in 2005 while Flint was a high school senior.
