PRESENTED BY ZACHARY JOHNSON

The Cravens have a long and twisted history together, joining together under the new name and fast becoming ‘rising stars’ on the South Florida music circuit.

Vocalists Bill and John Storch met Ron DeSaram in 1980 when the Storch brothers were in an alternative rock band called Black Box Approach. Ron was in a similar band called The Demos. The two bands latched on to each other and both were among the very few in South Florida playing original New Wave/Alternative music. They played many gigs together across Florida in the early 1980s.

Later Ron joined Crossfire Choir while Black Box Approach changed its name to Ata-Tat. Both bands saw success when they moved to the northeastern U.S. in 1983. Crossfire Choir became the house band at Hilly Kristal’s famed CBGB in New York City — the club that helped launch Pattti Smith, Blondie, Misfits, Joan Jett and the Talking Heads. They signed with Geffen Records and six-time Grammy winner Steve Lillywhite produced their first LP. Ata-Tat never signed to a major label but had a handful of regional hits in New England and toured extensively.

Since 2000 the band members have worked together in Florida on many recordings under various names, including Hillbilly Heart and The Sewing Circle Sues, which was a Crossfire Choir/Ata-Tat reunion band with Jay Pounders, Brad Peet and Andy McManus. They performed at CBGB’s in New York as part of the club’s closing ceremony.

The Cravens officially formed in 2013 and draw their material from years of ‘lost’ recordings. Drummer Tony Ferrari joined up in September of 2015, and they began recording an album the day after this video was filmed.
